Reading the articles of association that rule the non-agricultural cooperative policy before a notary was officially authorized the creation of an ornithological cooperative in the province of Matanzas.
Devoted to raise and commercialize non-endemic exotic birds from the island, this association demands the biggest amount of workers among the already existing cooperatives in Matanzas, counting 150 associates.
Rolando Garcia Betancourt, the head of the administration of this cooperative, revealed to “Radio 26” that among the species with a commercial purpose they have parakeets, “cacatillo” (similar to a cockatoo), “personata”, “fichelis“, and “rabadilla”.
The cooperative is also foreseeing the importance of importing specialized food for birds, to make up for the lack of basic grains in the national market to feed specific birds.
They will also have the possibility not only to export birds but also cages and other accessories.
This cooperative of the first ones created in Cuba and it is part of a process that will be extended to the rest of the provinces in order to increase the production of birds with an ornamental purpose but without disregarding their protection.
