The Matanzas Art’ Museum dedicated to the 320th anniversary of the city, the Art Museum, one of the most outstanding of its kind in Cuba, reserves enticing cultural programs for the upcoming October, as ensured Tania Elena Sánchez León, the museum’s entertainment specialist.
“For this month, we have reserved the usual clubs such as the Tee ballad, the last Friday, the day before the 53th anniversary of the Revolution Defense Comities’ foundation. There will also be a concert as tribute to that day.”
“Besides, students from the different educational levels will carry out trips toward our institution and itinerant museums events during which we carry pieces integrating expositions to work places, as
regards the important historical celebrations of the month, so as to get the audience close to our heritage.”
“The incoming itinerant exhibition will be exposed on October 11th at 4:00 PM, the Heritage’s Day, as part of the celebration of the City Foundation award. This will be an exhibition on Matanzas city young contemporaneous art”.
A part from the above mentioned option, the museum will show the audience its interesting options that attract home and foreign visitors.
“The Museum Art opens from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00P.M. It is made up of three rooms: a transitory one that exposes Matanzas artists’ exhibitions; the universal one which groups paintings by artists from Matanzas, Cuba, and Europe, belonging to the period between the XVIIIth and the XXIst century, among which stand
out those of the first and the second avant-garde such as Fidelio Ponce de León, Wilfredo Lam, Rafael Soriano… That room also includes a huge collection of our most outstanding woodcuts among which, we can highlight sculptors such as Rembrant, Durero and Van Dyck.”
“And the African Traditional Art room represents the most valuable one of the museum and is among the most complete ones in America and also among the world top five ones.”
The Art Museum, founded on May 19th, 1998, includes collections of over two thousands of pieces such as paintings, sculptures, drawings, woodcuts, posters and pieces of furniture, that constitute a legacy turned into a precious cultural heritage for the city of Matanzas.
