From different points of view as well as nuances of criticism and tolerance, friends and enemies, praise givers or detractors have tried to interpret the thinking along with the political and revolutionary action of Ernesto Guevara de la Serna, known worldwide as Che. The opportunists have tried to turn people’s attention to their points of view and the honest people have tried to illustrate the new generations and strengthen the forces.
In spite of the different approaches and interests that lead to controversies centered on Che Guevara’s personality as human being, statesmen, politician, soldier, the influence of his multifaceted model, that comes from his brilliant performance, gets bigger as time goes by, since his murder on October 9th, 1967 in the Bolivian village La Higuera.
The nature of this universal mysticism was the principle that guided every action of Ernesto: the personal acting should not come apart from the individual’s words.
Neither the uneasy young man that went all over South America, nor the conspirator; neither the guerilla in the Sierra Maestra mountain range or the politician and minister in Cuba, nor the internationalist soldier in Africa and Bolivia permitted double morals’ attitudes.
What guided every step of this right man was the unshakable idea that, you can only lead when you practice what you preach.
That true breaks up all the bordering, earns sympathy, creates behaviors and helps to humanize those who are able to take it in and act consequently in order to rebel against injustice, either man or woman, young or adult , in anyplace and anytime.
Therefore it is not surprising that in workers demonstrations, parades, student meetings, farmer’s assemblies, international forums, domestic debates; from the village to the most universal scope, they cite Che Guevara as a paradigm of justice and humanity, and his multiplied image walks down the avenues, adorns schools and houses, raises posters, appears on shirts and even on people’s tattoos.
It is not precisely a matter of a specific religious cult, although in humble places the indigenous population and villagers light candles and begs miracles whilst invoking Che Guevara.
It is just that Che belongs to everyone: to those who think and act according to a culture formed in classrooms, based on arguments about what is fair and useful, even to those who react according to the spiritual credo that engendered them, including those who practice orthodox religious denominations, presume being lay or confess to be atheistic.
Some people intending to confuse the world have tried to give a twisted interpretation to the guerrilla motivations, which they were even reckless sometimes, by saying that he used to seek for death, kind of a sacrifice to inspire others.
That’s an inadequate appreciation according to the splendid thinking of the Heroic Guerrilla Man. We can see that from the theories that he created up to the very decisions he had to take in situ during the most difficult times he was through, which can be seen in his Campaign Diary in Bolivia.
The writer Paco Ignacio Taibo ll, the author of one the Che biography, wrote: “there is no calling for suicide in Che, however, he did have along his youth a vocation to test himself, to push to the limits on a rational way, kind of what’s my limit?. Rashness was a mandatory feature of the project he developed”.
The social and revolutionary fight of the 21st century does not have the same tactic elements that lead the emergence of a guerrilla movement In Cuba in 1956. This triumph stimulated some other Latin-American nations, where the exploitation of the workers by the local bourgeoisie and the foreign economic interest showed proper feudal and slavery regimes.
Che’s guerilla initiatives can not be disqualified by taking them out of the historical context. No one can categorically affirm that those conditions that gave rise to the proliferation of the guerilla movements as the only liberation alternative won’t be repeated.
Nowadays, like in those Che’s time, there are special situations, like the one in Cuba, which faces a sharp blockade and aggression by biggest economic and military power of the planet. This situation has lasted more than 50 years, thus it demands the putting in to practice of a doctrine that favors the people’s preparedness for their defense, which is vital their strategy.
It would be worthless for humble people to take over the political power in their countries without creating the basis that guarantee the economic independence, and the real possibility to fight back any aggression by the imperial birds of pray.
In the 46 anniversary of Che’s death in combat in Bolivia, his ethics, patriotism, and his internationalist example of solidarity is still spreading hope, nourishing the young people and strengthening the revolutionary rebelliousness. And above and beyond he inspires the goodwill, is present and has no limits.
