Poetic Vigil will take place to celebrate the 200 years of Milanes

Several poets from Matanzas will wait the August 16th, date in which is celebrated the 200th anniversary of the birth of the great writer Jose Jacinto Milanes with a poetic vigil at the Art Museum of Matanzas city.

The opening of the night concert, which has been called De codos en el puente, in reference to the famous  Milanes´poem, will be anchored by Anton Arrufat, who was  National Literature Prize  and will have as well the presence of  the writer from Cardenas, based in Havana, Luis Lorente.

As reported by Alfredo Zaldivar, general coordinator of the event, they will read poems till midnight when they will come out in  pilgrimage till reach the  Calixto García bridge, from where they will launch flowers into the waters of the San Juan River to Milanes for his bicentenary.

“From that bridge, known by Matanzas people as De Tirry wrote the bard De codos en el puente, considered to be his song to Matanzas,” said Zaldivar, adding that the Matanzas poets will meet again on Saturday 16th for the contest-Debate in the birthplace of Jose Jacinto Milanes, current Provincial Historical Archives.
