The record of crossing the Bay of Matanzas by swimming has been broken

The young swimmer Alejandro Pérez Balseiro,athlete of the  Augusto Turcios Lima sports initiation school( EIDE ),who is  only 14 years old just beat the record for crossing the bay of Matanzas in just 32 minutes and with the added merit of being this one his debut in such symbolic competition.

Alejandro, who is also a national runner-up in the recently National School Games already completed, in the form of Open Water celebrates his victory in the event celebrated every year on 88th birthday of Cuban leader Fidel Castro Ruz.

“I feel great emotion to win the Bay crossing in my city, Matanzas. Despite being used to swim in open water, the fact of getting this achievement on this special day is very emotional for me, ” the Matanzas athlete told Radio 26. 

After leaving the Port Authority in Versailles, participants walked a distance of 2 kilometers hundred meters to the finish line located on the Tennis beach, on the other end of the Matanzas roadstead.

As part of the day also recreational volleyball and basketball skills, strength of the rope, swimming exhibitions,  marathon in the sand, among other sports activities that  inspired the iconic date will be carried out​​.
