The Department of Gender at the University of Matanzas, Camilo Cienfuegos headquarters, celebrated the Day Against Gender Violence towards Women and Girls with dissimilar activities. Woven orange flowers were given away to young people as a gift, represented the support to victims of physical and psychological abuse.
“In this space of the house of higher studies Matanzas activities such as exhibition of research projects by students of Agronomy, selling crafts and projection of audiovisual materials related to the subject, after the debate took place and reflection, “said Mariela Robaina Gonzalez, president of the Department of Gender. This institution plays a key role in the education of youth. Its functions are deployed during the year for training and development of community action. According to the president of the class, this exchange is very helpful, especially when achieved teachings radiate beyond the university framework. The Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is celebrated every November 25th to commemorate the Mirabal sisters, three political activists who were brutally murdered in 1960 on orders of Dominican ruler Rafael Trujillo.
