Palmar de Junco preserves baseball history in Matanzas

The visit to the Palmar de Junco stadium, in Matanzas, stands out among the places that promote the routes through the city, site where the first official baseball game in Cuba took place, which is inextricably linked to the local history.

According to references of the time on the grass of the land located in the neighborhood of Pueblo Nuevo, owned by Junco, on December 27th, 1874 a game between the teams of Havana and Matanzas was made.

The same field served as headquarters for the first clashes of national sport, for a few years before, yumurino port workers formed a squad that faced the crew of an American ship anchored in the bay.

With the visit to the stadium Palmar de Junco, in the city of Matanzas, children and young people approach the history of a place that was growing on their land to a host of players who have given glory to Cuba.
