From music to economy

Gloria Machado León 9 noviembre, 2016

Matanzas, in 2016, is the seat of the National Act for the day of the Economist. From today, Radio 26 will publish a series of interviews to outstanding economists of the yumurino territory that have had a outstanding work during the year.

Yaima Gómez Monzón, studied music at the Vocational School of Art in Matanzas. His instrument was the guitar, but his grandmother impregnated him with the bug of the economy. Thus came, this young woman to the world of numbers and accounts. Today she works as a consultant at Canec, a consulting company of the National Association of Economists and Accountants of Cuba (ANEC)

What is your role within the Canec?

I work in the area of accounting, providing consulting, diagnosis, accounting advice and in a new line, which is the bookkeeping. This is when the entity needs the Canec to support it in the area of accounting.

What role does Canec play in the process of business development and certification of accounting and internal control?

In the consulting area, an accounting diagnosis of the entity is made and, as a result, the internal control components are analyzed. From the deficiencies of the company is made the plan of measures, and once fulfilled, the company can request the audit to certify the accounting.

What do you think was the greatest contribution of the Canec so that Matanzas obtained the seat of the national act for the day of the economist?

Canec has always worked with the National Association of Economists and Accountants of Cuba (ANEC). We as a group we fulfill the delivery of the quote in time, we support in the courses of improvement, we divulge its work. We represent a support for the Anec, because we have qualified personnel with a great accumulation of knowledge and experience.

How old are you in Canec? How did you arrive?

I have been here for two years . In the company where I worked previously I requested the service of Canec and I began to work with its consultants, to nourish myself of their knowledge. Then I was given the opportunity to finish university by Anec, which is another of the opportunities offered by the organization.

Then, the Canec was looking for new staff to take the accounting and I had the knowledge and the experience. For me to enter the consulting company was an important achievement, until that moment I only saw it as an entity that could only reach adults, with a lot of experience, with great knowledge. I thought it would take me longer to get there. It was a great goal.

I still have a lot to learn, to nourish myself from that accumulation of experience that is inside. They are people who despite their advanced age have a tremendous youth inside, because they always feel like working and are willing to give you their knowledge, they do not have a schedule. We are a family in Canec.

Why did you choose this race?

I liked the economy the day I saw in an office as simple as a bank reconciliation, was mixed with other activities. Accounting is not an isolated area, it takes everything that happens in a company. It summarizes the rest of the activities and tells you, if what you do is right or wrong.

What does the economy mean in Yaima’s life?

The economy is everything. When you fall in love with numbers, the moment comes that even in the house you apply it. For example, I educate my son according to my salary, I explain how much to spend for each need.

You see that in the end the economy influences in life. I believe that everyone should know something about economics. I am already dependent to work in this area. It is a habit.

Sometimes I’m home and they call me for an economic consultation. And what could have been a call of a few minutes becomes an hour.
