“Since I have not been to the theater for a long time, the theater came to me”, expressed an emotional and grateful Rosita Fornés, at the end of the concert offered at her residence in Havana the Matanzas group: A Tempo Clásico. And added the vedette of Cuba: “They have wonderful voices and I predict a great future.”
Romanzas of Cuban and Spanish zarzuelas, many of which are part of the wide repertoire of the honoree, masterfully accompanied at the piano by María Julia Arango, were interpreted by talented young people.
“I will never forget this wonderful evening. I commend this lyric movement, and especially its director Oscar Trujillo, so young and so capable, I see that he has the gift of joining forces to face any adversity. I wish you a great future. “
Fornés was also very happy for the presence of the baritone Gustavo Alvarez, his colleague for many years and a great friend. They recalled the founding times of the National Lyric Theater and other moments they shared in their long artistic trajectories.
La Fornés now lives in a retreat, surrounded by the love of her wonderful family, but never far from the world of culture and its people who both love and admire. When he learned that there is a chance that this lyrical chamber company will give him another concert, on his 94th birthday on February 11th, he said: “It would be the best of gifts.”
