More than 1,300 hectares dedicated to the cultivation of potatoes for consumption will be planted before December 30 in the province of Matanzas, said Yosbel Tejera Guinart, subdelegate of the provincial Delegation of Agriculture in the territory.
There are still 35 hectares planned for seed tillage in the Basic Cooperative Production Unit Eladio Hernández, but as a harvesting strategy, work will be completed in January.
The highest production volume is concentrated in the Agropecuarias Máximo Gómez, Martí and Vladímir Ilich Lenin, in the municipality of Jovellanos.
The lack of spare parts of the irrigation machinery prevented the beginning of the agricultural activity in time, but today the technology is necessary thanks to the Cuban-Brazilian program More Food, said Tejera Guinart.
In the campaign 24 varieties of import from Holland and the Roman-national Cuban were sown. According to the official the weather conditions in this campaign favored the tuber when compared to last year in the same period.
