Sparks of fire lit the night before when students and matanceros workers staged the traditional March of the Torches in homage to the 164th anniversary of the birth of José Martí.
The concentration left the park René Fraga Moreno, at 9:00 p.m., and, among cheers and slogans, arrived at La Libertad park , where a wreath was placed in the monument dedicated to the Apostle.
Later, the tour continued to the vicinity of the Sauto theater, where a cultural political activity was carried out. The central words of the act corresponded to Leovanis Santana Domínguez, first secretary of the Municipal Committee of the Union of Young Communists (UJC) in Matanzas, who declared Radio 26:
“Tonight our young people have reaffirmed their commitment to continue the legacy of the National Hero and the Commander in Chief, an undisputed follower of the Martí ideology. Today we have patented the responsibility of honoring the past to build the future. “
The program concluded with the presentation of the popular music group JG (Juan Guillermo).
With the motto La Patria en el corazón, the march was dedicated to Commander in Chief Fidel Castro and to the 95th and 55th anniversaries of the University Student Federation and the UJC, respectively.
The activity was chaired by Teresa Rojas Monzón, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary in Matanzas.
