Matanzas is ready for potatoes harvesting

The productive units of Matanzas province are ready to harvest about 28 thousand tons of potatoes planned for the coming harvest, said Yosbel Tejera Guinart, agricultural subdelegate in the territory.

The harvest will begin the coming February 15 by the Basic Unit of Cooperative Production La Rueda, Agricultural Company Vladimir Ilich Lenin, in Jovellanos.

For the campaign, there are machinery, transport and more than 750 thousand bags to collect the tuber, added Tejera Guinart.

The average yield is about 20 tonnes per hectare. In the case of the Roman-national potato the estimates are 17 and in the tuber of import will exceed 21 tons per hectare.

More than 900 tons will be used for seeds, 200 for daily consumption in the tourist sector and 23 thousand for the commercial network of the Provincial Collection Company.
