Radio26.Cu – Matanzas, Cuba

Voice and style is gone

Gloria Machado León 26 abril, 2017

Great as an English teacher and very great as narrator sports commentator, yesterday we physically left Jorge Arturo Castellanos Padrón.

The first compliments of Castellanos I heard them in the 70’s, when the already disappeared Argilio Rodriguez told me in Cardenas: “In Matanzas there is one of the most powerful voices I have heard, he called me on the phone to ask to enter this world of Sports narration “.

We then share many years of work in the stadium Palmar de Junco, first and then in the Victory of Giron, always with his innate teaching.

I was with him his last years behind the microphone, that did not leave, even sick from the bed, as it indicated in his chronicles. I do not think I imagined the quality I possessed.

I know that many times Eddy Martin tried to convince him to go to the capital, but he never wanted to leave his Matanzas homeland.

It shone in the Pan American Games of Havana in the descriptions of the basketball and realized interviews in the English language to competitors of the United States, with such brilliance, that was recognized even by the athletes themselves.

He was the best of that young generation of narrators who began, almost at par, on Radio 26.

We will always remember him for his simplicity and human quality, as I am sure will do the immense legion of matanceros that were his students and the thousands of listeners throughout the province and the country that awaited his sports descriptions.

It was our voice and style. We will always remember you brother …
