Causality, or just the good practices wanted that on 26 de Julio Contest, of the Union of Journalists of Cuba, were awarded two works related to what are considered symbols of the city of Matanzas, Teatro Sauto and the poetess Carilda Oliver Labra.
The Sauto, National Monument, is one of the most important theatrical coliseums of Cuba, for its architectural splendor and the hierarchy of the artists who have acted on its stage. Carilda, called the Bride of Matanzas, is one of the most outstanding poetesses of Cuba and Hispanic America, National Prize of Literature.
The radio station Radio 26 belongs both winning works; The chronicle: Reminiscences of a theater, by Maritza Tejera García, in the category of digital journalism and the interview of Jessica Mesa Duarte, titled The Man Who Awakened Cuba, in radio journalism.
With these two radio broadcasters we talked briefly about their work.
Maritza, head of digital writing for Radio 26: «I am very happy for my work, especially because it is an acknowledgment of the Sauto theater, in Matanzas, which has been under repair for years; In 2018 this city celebrates its 325th anniversary and it works because it looks all its splendor. Sauto was the first place in the world where I wanted to go when I was a child, because my mother talked a lot about him, it’s a unique theater in Cuba and it’s unlikely that there are many replicas of him in the world … Magic theater
«I am very happy with this result, I am retired and re-hired and have a 26 de Julio prize, before retiring completely, it is a pride for me,» he said excitedly.
Jessica, reporter: «I feel very good, very grateful. Have the opportunity to talk to Carilda, and that’s a prize. It was a dream of mine to interview her all my life. What I liked most about the work is that it tells me about Fidel, from unpublished data on Canto a Fidel, that poem in which she expresses her admiration for the Commander. And it touched me much more because I learned the prize two or three days after the celebration of Carilda’s 95th birthday. She is a great referent for me, I adore that woman. «
On August 22 we will celebrate the 95th anniversary of the Cuban Radio and these two radioistas took the opportunity to express their pride in being part of this medium.
Maritza: «Radio is important in my life, the last years of my profession have been in this medium, Radio Taíno Varadero and Radio 26; I feel very proud to belong to the collective of the Cuban Radio.
«For us it is very important to have obtained these awards and that from Matanzas both have been from Radio 26, it is very nice.»
Jessica: «I graduated three years ago, at first I liked the print media more, but I discovered the magic of this medium that is catching you little by little. And I would not want to leave. Radio is a great school, it really gives you lots of opportunities to improve, to excel, to enjoy your work at the same time. «
