About 22 hectares of forest were planted in the municipalities of Matanzas, Cárdenas and Limonar as part of this year’s plantation campaign of the Matanzas Agroforestry Base Business Unit, specialist Feliberto Frómeta Durán reported.
These hectares will be destined to energetic forests and the production of wood for sawing. Among the main species are acacia, various types of oak and mahogany. In the Yumurí Valley priority was given to planting two hectares of cedar, a precious wood of high economic value in the tobacco industry.
“For this campaign, which was fulfilled at one hundred percent, there were more than 75 thousand positions,” he added.
In addition, the UEB, located at km 113 of the Central Highway, sold about 35 thousand postures to the productive structures for the promotion of forests.
“We also promote the forests in the hydro-regulatory belts that also guarantee the water flowing into the basins,” explained Frómeta Durán.
