More than 70 percent of the hectares dedicated to the cultivation of vegetables and vegetables, in the municipality of Matanzas, were damaged after the passage of Hurricane Irma.
A month after this hydro-meteorological event, all the stonemasons of the 20 organoponics of the territory are planted, informed Alfredo Santana, director of the Urban Farm.
“Some spinach and beans were sold, but after the second half of October it is when the crops will stabilize,” he added.
“During the visit of the National Group of Urban Agriculture, the damages were certified, but we are already recovered,” explained Alfredo Santana.
As part of the recovery work, the organic fertilizers were replaced, the roofs of the semiprotected and the perimeter fences of the organoponics were fixed.
“The greatest damage was concentrated in vegetables such as lettuce and chard, so today short crop crops are prioritized,” he said.
The Urban Farm of the municipality of Matanzas serves a total of 63 centers prioritized among children’s circles, hospitals and maternal homes.
