More than half of the schools affected in the province of Matanzas by the passage of Hurricane Irma were rescued after intense workdays.
According to Roberto Pujols Ortiz, Methodologist of Preparation for Defense of the Education Directorate in the territory, of the 126 schools damaged by the natural event, 72 have recovered in a process that, as expected, will conclude in the rest of the institutions educational events on October 25th.
Pujols commented that the material resources for the execution of the constructive work are guaranteed, as well as the labor, facilitated by the Provincial Maintenance and Construction Company and the brigades of the Education sector. He also emphasized that the collaboration of the parents and the community was vital for the rapid and effective conclusion of the actions and, later, for the cleaning and organization of the areas.
Irma hurricane caused partial damage to the educational facilities and alumina, mainly in light covers, carpentry and waterproofing of premises.
The greatest damages were registered in the Sí por Cuba elementary school from the capital city; Sergio González elementary school, of the municipality of Cárdenas, and Republica de Indonesia, from Martí town. Also ravaged the secondary Juramento de Baraguá, from the town of Boca de Camarioca.
