Sugar is our history

More than 70 delegates from the country participate in the XVIII National Historic-Sugar Heritage Event from November 8th to 10th in the province of Matanzas.

During the meeting, dedicated to the 188th anniversary of the birth of Álvaro Reynoso, a balance will be made on the work on institutional communication, said Orlando Vandrell, director of Investments and Development of the Matanzas Sugar Company.

In addition, lectures and lectures by researchers related to the conservation of the sugar heritage in the history of Cuba will be presented.

Also, the delegates will visit the Museum to the Rebel Slave in Triunvirato, the Business Unit of Base (UEB) José Antonio Echeverría and its museum of steam locomotives in the old José Smith Comas, in Cárdenas.

Also, visitors will visit the central Mexico, in the municipality of Colon, and will know the importance of sugar production in the site, where a large percentage of the population is named Zulueta as the owners of the Álava sugar mill. There they will perform an activity that includes a drum beat and a traditional dinner for people of African descent.

The declaration as a National Monument to the Sugar Cane Experimental Station (EPICA) is expected during the program, for its research in that crop and for having the third largest seed bank in the world, explained Orlando Vandrell.

Since 1997, the National Historic-Sugar Heritage Event in Cuba has been held. In its eighteenth edition, which will take place from today until November 10, the province of Matanzas holds the seat as a constant reminder of that phrase of the Historian of Havana, Eusebio Leal Spengler: (…) Sugar is our history, without it is impossible to interpret the essence and truth of Cuba (…)
