The epidemiological situation in the province of Matanzas is a matter of concern for Public Health authorities due to the high rates of infestation by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
Dr. Jorge Armando Delgado, head of the provincial department of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, explained to Radio 26 that the most affected municipalities are Matanzas, Cárdenas, Unión de Reyes, Pedro Betancourt and Calimete, although in the rest of the territories as well the presence of foci of the dangerous vector is reported.
Among the main measures adopted to reverse this situation are the reorganization of the work forces and the completion of them. The specialist also recognized the active participation of the different sectors, especially in the focal and perifocal treatment, and said that training courses are currently being developed to improve the quality of the work of the vector control brigades.
For their part, the specialists and promoters of the Provincial Center for the Promotion of Health and Disease Prevention insist on the systematic realization of the family autofocal in homes and work centers; cover well the storage tanks of clean water and go immediately to a doctor before any characteristic symptom of zika or dengue.
