On Sunday, December 3erd, in Matanzas, as throughout the country, second-round suffrages will take place to elect delegates to the Municipal Assemblies of Popular Power in 40 districts, except for the municipalities of Zapata Penisula and Unión de Kings. As stipulated in the electoral law, these elections are held for the second time when two or more candidates are tied or because none of the nominees reached more than half of the valid votes cast, expression of the democratic essence of the Cuban electoral system.
In the first round of the suffrages 720 delegates were elected and the rest will be completed this Sunday. The electors will keep in mind the human quality, fidelity to the country, prestige, capacity and possibilities of the postulates selected by the people.
The 202 schools will function again in the 40 districts with the support of the electoral authorities after their training in this first part of the 2017-2018 General Elections.
The president of the provincial Electoral Commission, Idoneida Abreu Domech, said that the elections coincided this year with the first anniversary of the physical disappearance of our Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and with that motivation the people will vote once again for Cuba.
Also the highest electoral authority in Matanzas referred to the computer groups, which did a successful job in the past elections and are now prepared to support the transmission parts from the circumscriptions to the municipalities and provinces. In this second round, once again, democracy and transparency will be demonstrated when exercising the vote in the ballot boxes guarded by members of the José Martí Pioneers Organization.
