More than 200 thousand seeds are planted in the four nurseries of the Matanzas Agroforestry Company, an entity that this year should contribute to the reforestation of 197 hectares in the province, according to Jorge Díaz Mirabal, director of the company.
“The logistical inputs are complete and the pine that was planted in November is already germinating, as well as other species such as acacia and eucalyptus,” said the manager.
“We are in a good campaign because the nurseries are technically strengthened and run by engineers with years of experience, which represents an advantage,” added Díaz Mirabal.
The Matanzas Agroforestry Company has four nursery systems in San Pedro de Mayabón, San Miguel de los Baños, Martí and in the municipality of Matanzas, which contribute to agriculture complying with its reforestation plan.
“Another novelty is that this year we produce coconut and coffee in our nurseries, to plant 25 and 63 hectares, respectively, of these species in the province. Coffee is very important because it will be planted on the plain and will benefit small producers of Jagüey Grande, “said the manager.
The nursery campaign, which began in November 2017 and runs until next June, has a plan of 354 thousand positions to produce that will contribute to the reforestation of 197 hectares in the province of Matanzas.
