Since yesterday, February 6, Decree-Law 351 “On the Special Regime of Social Security for Cooperatives of the Basic Units of Cooperative Production” (UBPC) came into force, aimed at the protection of its associates. The Decree-Law, published in the Official Gazette Extraordinary Number 12, protects the cooperative members in cases of illness or accident of common or professional origin, maternity, total disability, old age and in case of death, protects your family. Membership in this special social security scheme is mandatory and is an essential requirement to receive their benefits. It is the responsibility of the Board of Directors, on behalf of the Basic Unit of Cooperative Production, to guarantee the affiliation of the cooperative by registering it in the Taxpayers Registry of the National Tax Administration Office (ONAT), corresponding to the fiscal domicile of the cooperative . The monetary benefits regulated by this Decree-Law 351 are financed with the contribution of the cooperative members and are paid from the social security budget. The amount of this tax is calculated monthly, applying 20 percent to the base of the contribution selected by the cooperative on a scale whose minimum value is 350 CUP and the maximum of two thousand CUP, according to the Granma newspaper. In addition, with this Decree-Law the cooperativist who becomes ill or injured has the right to receive, during the period of his temporary disability, a daily subsidy, excluding the weekly rest days, equivalent to a percentage of the average of the monthly contribution base of the immediate twelve months prior to the date of onset of the disability. The standard is adapted to the characteristics of the UBPC and responds to the improvement of the agricultural sector in accordance with the guidelines 140 of the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the Revolution.
