The book Hasta siempre Fidel is presented in Matanzas

Gloria Machado León 10 marzo, 2018

The moving homage with which the people of Cuba and friends of the world bid farewell to the historic leader of the Revolution is reflected in the text Hasta siempre Fidel, presented this Saturday in the city of Matanzas as part of the twenty-seventh edition of the International Book Fair .

In the presentation the historian Gladys Pérez Rivero highlighted the links of the revolutionary leader with the yumurino territory manifested in the Christmas dinner of December 24, 1959 along with several families of the Ciénaga de Zapata; its infallible presence on the three occasions in which the province obtained the national headquarters of the activities for July 26 and the recognition it granted to this region as it was the first to eradicate in the country the fight against bandits.

The troubadour Orlando Pérez performed several songs in homage to Fidel.

The volume, composed of more than 500 photographs of some 40 authors, including Alberto Korda, Álex Castro, Roberto Chile, Juvenal Balán and Ismael Batista, is an exceptional testimony of the reaction that led to the death of the Commander in Chief since the night of November 25, 2016 until the massive pilgrimage of the santiagueros in the cemetery of Santa Ifigenia.

The distinctive creativity of those born in this land, sensitized by the loss, led to the many stories that relate these pages, because everyone said the final goodbye with their own resources and from their personal experience and feeling.

A sober design and the use of the most modern techniques in the graphic arts distinguish Fidel forever.

The title, rigorously organized, also integrates notes selected by the journalist Rosa Miriam Elizalde and includes testimonies from some 17 press media and fragments of poems by national authors such as Virgilio López Lemus, Nancy Morejón, Angel Augier and foreigners such as Juan Gelman, Pablo Neruda and Mario Benedetti, as well as parts of the interventions of political leaders of the world.

The event was attended by Teresa Rojas Monzón, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Matanzas and member of its Central Committee, and Mario Sabines Lorenzo, vice president of the Provincial Assembly of Popular Power, among other authorities of political organizations and mass in the territory.

Populated by children, young and old, the reader does not find it difficult to recognize himself in the pictures of Hasta siempre Fidel, because pain is a sister to all.
