The city is the place where the cultural, political, social and economic expressions of the population groups converge.
As a common space for citizens, it requires popular participation for its structuring, development and projection.
Matanzas is immersed in a process of unprecedented rehabilitation in the city with a view to his 325th birthday, next October.
Each citizen should be and feel part of this comprehensive restoration, as direct depositories of everything that means the actions that are currently being developed to reconstruct, reorganize, restructure and dream the historic center, at first, to then expand into the whole Matanzas geography .
To encourage popular participation in these social constructions, the City Curator, Leonel Pérez Orozco and the provincial radio station of Matanzas, Radio 26, are invited to participate tomorrow, April 13, in an online interview. The subject is, precisely, one of the most controversial and ambitious projects of which today they are intended in the city: the Plaza de la Vigía.
The city is face and identity. “Cities have the ability to provide something for everyone, just because and only when, they are created for the whole world.” Share this experience with us, contribute to make our house-city, a better place for everyone.
We are in line with the Conservator of the City of Matanzas, from this moment we began to discuss the Matanzas 325 plan and the location of the tram in the Plaza de la Vigía.
9:05 am Leonel Pérez Orozco: – What do you think of the changes that are taking place in the Historic Center of the city?
9:45 am. José Miguel Solís: – Greetings. The use of. A tram incorporates a note of interest. But what is placed in the environment of Sauto could incorporate an anachronism element if we are thinking of enhancing the neoclassicism of the city?
Another element How the conservation program will be sustained. ..pecifically how will the conservator’s office enter to continue investments? Thanks for the deference.
9:50 am. Leonel Pérez Orozco: – Radio26 The trolley car will be located in front of the Athens cafeteria on the tram lines, as an extension of the cafeteria of the place, without interfering with the vision of Sauto, the Palace of Justice and the Museo Palacio de Junco. Also since 1916 the place was constantly traversed by trams for almost 50 years, therefore, the element is not anachronistic or alien to the road history of the City of Matanzas
9:52 am Leonel Pérez Orozco: – Radio26 As of the approval of the Official Decree of the Office, we will be receiving one percent of the utilization of all those who are in the Historic Center as well as the state budget that the office for the restoration of the patrimony receives.
10:27 a.m. Odalys Oriol Miranda Suárez: – The social transformation has implications, Orozco, do you appreciate changes in the behavior of the Matanzas?
10:30 a.m. Leonel Pérez Orozco: – The first thing I have to say is that the majority of the Matanzas appreciate the changes that are being made today, and this is evident from the comments that are daily generated on the street. A year ago they were very pessimistic, today they are very positive and hopeful and many of them of encouragement and support; this will contribute to the social behavior of those who inhabit the city also improve in discipline, social planning and environmental care.
10:46 am. Odalys Oriol Miranda Suárez: – Multiple comments and concerns raised the closure of Calle Medio. Why did Narváez intervene with Calle Medio with so few road solutions in the city?
10:53 am. Leonel Pérez Orozco: – Matanzas is a city very well marked with excellent transit options that the Matanzas do not appreciate and are not used to using. In a study conducted at 12:00 PM in all neighborhoods of the city, we found that: – Contreras and Milanés were almost collapsed in traffic, while Rio, Manzano, Daóiz and Velardes were totally empty; The first thing that was done was to enable these streets to increase traffic intensity and start work on the Cuní roundabout that will alleviate 70% of the traffic in the historic center. If we did not close Medio y Narváez and started the rehabilitation of these two pedestrian spaces both were not going to be for the 325, this is why these decisions have been taken to achieve pedestrian integrality within the Historic Center.
10:57 am. Odalys Oriol Miranda Suárez: – Why did other spaces in the city once traversed?
11:01 am Leonel Pérez Orozco: – Matanzas was the fourth city of Cuba to have streetcars, inaugurated in 1916. 16 cars circulated throughout the city grouped in different routes, Matanzas -Versalles, Matanzas – Station, Versailles – Beach, Matanzas – Beach, Station – Versailles, Station – Beach; and it was distinguished by green, red and yellow colors. The streets where they circulated went from Versailles to Ayón going up through Manzano to Mujica, Mujica down to Cuba, Cuba to Dos de Mayo, Dos de Mayo Milanés and Puente de San Luis, and from there to Esteban road to the beach, and Milanés until Sauto and Sauto by Tirry to Playa.
10:56 am. Maritza Tejera: – In dreams with my grandmother, almost always appears to me mounted on a tram traveling through the city. Then I, I’m dying to get on a tram and turn it around, even if it’s one block away from the city. But that’s a very distant dream, is not it, Conservative?
11:04 am Maritza Tejera: – In Narvaez, have you thought about putting some boats in the river for walks from bridge to bridge?
11:12 a.m. Leonel Pérez Orozco: – My dear friend riding the tram if you can do it in the square of the lookout where we are going to put a car of it, but turning the block is impossible because this car will not work as a tram but as a sample of what it was. As for the boats in the San Juan, yes, since the project is conceived and this will happen when we inaugurate the space.
10:54 am. Odalys Oriol Miranda Suárez: – If Matanzas embellishes in its Historic Center, what other actions do you foresee to benefit areas of the city with a disadvantaged image?
11:27 a.m. Leonel Pérez Orozco: – The rehabilitation of the City of Matanzas, started by the Historic Foundational Center as we move forward in this restoration, we will include other areas of the city, also prioritized for conservation, such as: the Tirry roads, San Luis , Stephen; the Historical Centers of the districts of Versailles and Pueblo Nuevo, the bridges and the heritage buildings of each space of the city.
11:42 am Jose Miguel Solis: – Are aquatic activities affected in a river, with a certain level of contamination? unless we know, the Ministry of Tourism declines to do so.
11:53 am. Leonel Pérez Orozco: – At this moment, intense work is being done to decontaminate the San Juan River. Only fourteen days ago, the pollution routes of the slaughterhouse in the city were cut and this has considerably reduced the contaminant load. CITMA will shortly carry out an analysis of its waters and, as we cut pollutant roads, the flow of the river will encourage its cleanup, bringing us closer to the public use of its waters.
11:57 am Odalys Oriol Miranda Suárez: – You can talk about a preparation of the city for city tourism.
12:14 a.m. Leonel Pérez Orozco: – Matanzas is a city with a landscape and tourist vocation, and everything that is being done today will be taxed on city tourism. The actions of the 325 plan will not end this year, this is just the beginning of the total rehabilitation of the city that will continue in a first phase until 2025, including city tourism; for this date the hotels Louvre, Yara, Libertad and Plaza de la Vigía will be ready to provide hotel services for the chain Encanto; besides the entrance of the big cruises to the bay that would reinforce the tourist demand in the City of Matanzas.
