The Vaccination Week began eleven years ago in the Andean countries with the Declaration of Sucre, after the eradication of polio. In 2004, the Pan American Health Organization coordinated with the countries of the region the activities to celebrate the day in the hemisphere. Its goal is to vaccinate some 43 million people and conduct awareness campaigns about immunizations.
