The environmental education campaign “For a cleaner beach: from heart to heart, trash to the basket” plays a fundamental role in the sanitation of the beaches of Matanzas coast.
The proposal is the expression of a community that is committed to cleaner beaches, explained one of its coordinators Magalys Menéndez Peñate.
“The residents of the Popular Beach Council have united and have gradually transformed their surroundings. Even some institutions have been sensitized to the issue, but much remains to be done. Today we appeal for social, environmental and institutional responsibility “.
The environmental education campaign “For a cleaner beach: heart to heart, trash to the basket” includes activities in which children have fun and learn, said Mirian Cordero, a neighbor of the community.
“Every year I take my granddaughter to this type of activities, she has a great time and when she picks up the garbage from the sea and deposits it in the baskets that influences her education”.
The University of Matanzas supports this type of activities, said Pedro Antonio Buzo Silva, professor of the Department of Sociocultural Studies.
“It is part of our extension work and we provide advice to achieve awareness with a subject as timely as the protection of marine ecosystems.”
The beaches of the city of Matanzas adorn the landscape and are one of the most visited sites during the summer. However, the absence of baskets, the little administrative requirement in their care and social indiscipline threaten the preservation of our environment.
Educational campaigns like from Heart to Heart trash to the basket today bet for cleaner beaches with the support of the community.
