The president of the National Assembly of Popular Power (ANPP), Esteban Lazo Hernández, checked the progress of the main construction works for the 325 anniversary of the city of San Carlos and San Severino of Matanzas.
The also member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba highlighted the importance of redeeming the historical values of the last neoclassical building on the island, the Enrique Estrada fire station.
In the building, dating from 1900, the façade, the roof and other structural areas were rehabilitated. In addition, the Virgen de los Desamparados, patron saint of firefighters, is exhibited and the construction work planned for 2019-2020 was put forward.
The president of the legislative body admired the Plaza de la Vigía and valued the works in Sauto Theater, National Monument. He pointed out the need to readjust the work schedule for when the last components of the air conditioning arrive, not to delay its opening. According to Leonel Pérez Orozco, the work is now 90 percent complete, but there is a lack of lights, audio and some elements of the climate.
During the tour, the Milanés y Ayllón Shopping Center was also visited. The general manager of Cimex, Zulema Moreno Ruiz, explained that the building is valued at more than six million pesos in total currency.
Also, Esteban Lazo Hernández toured Calle Narváez and its cultural projects, in addition to the Louvre Hotel, La Viña and El Modelo Barber Shop. Precisely, he recognized the importance of this site in the city for what it can contribute culturally and socially to its inhabitants.
Accompanying the Cuban leader during his visit, was Teresa Rojas, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary in the province, and Tania León Silveira, president of the Provincial Assembly of People’s Power.
