The Fishing Company of Matanzas (PESCAMAT) prioritizes cold systems, the progressive development of aquaculture and the introduction of new species of greater value.
According to the director of the entity, Osmel Vicente Alemán Rodríguez, the priorities are part of the strategic development programs. It also includes industry, technological transport, marketing and efficiency in quality management systems and food safety.
In this sense, 17 cold chambers were installed in the last two years, covering the northern, central and southern part of the province. In addition, a five-ton ice factory was purchased and the spawning center of the Alevinje Matanzas Base Business Unit was modernized, the executive explained.
“As a result of this investment, transportation costs are avoided from the municipality of Calimete and 1.2 million larvae are produced weekly”.
Likewise, new breeding banks of Tilapia, Claria, Ciprínido were introduced to raise the quality of the fingerlings and the Australian Lobster is discreetly encouraged.
90 percent of the fishmongers in Matanzas were remodeled and it is planned to build seven more in the municipalities of Colón, Martí, Ciénaga de Zapata, Los Arabos, Unión de Reyes and Cárdenas.
“It also ventures into new shaped products and sausages such as mortadella, chorizo, hot dog, bocadito pasta, buffet croquettes and hamburgers,” added Alemán Rodríguez.
For 2019, the construction of a new industry in the largest wetland in Cuba and a modern fish market in the Yuumurian city were planned to produce fresh products in the unit itself.
The Fishing Company of Matanzas diversifies its productions despite the lack of raw materials and technological equipment, as well as the instability of divers and skippers.
