In the Experimental Station of Pastures and Forages, Indio Hatuey, of Perico municipality, the workshop of information and socialization was developed: Recycling of nutrients and coal from biomass.

This event was fruitful in the exchange of learning and knowledge, according to Yuvan Contino Esquijerosa, specialist of the entity.

“The results were shown in the elaboration, activation and use in crops of Biochar, a vegetable charcoal that is applied to the soil to improve its properties, and organic-minerals. In addition are the experiences of the work in the peasant farms of the local development group “.

The workshop was carried out as part of the project Recycling of nutrients and coal from biomass for advanced organic fertilization in Cuba’s eco-intelligent and climate-positive agriculture (Bio-C).

This research will be carried out between 2018 and 2022 with the objective of grounding the main interactions carbon-environment-food and carbon-environment-energy nexus in Cuban conditions, through the use of biomass and organic waste.

It will also favor the production of renewable energies and new formulations of enriched Biochar, with a favorable impact on the health and production of animals and plants.

The Experimental Station of Pastures and Forages Indio Hatuey contributes through these workshops to scientific activity, innovation and sustainable local development through agro-ecological models.
