The Plaza Vigía hosted this weekend a great exhibition of martial arts in greetings to the 325 anniversary of the city of Matanzas.
According to Raúl Roque Montenegro, the provincial president of the Chinese Martial Arts, schools from Matanzas and Havana, practitioners of Tai chi chuan, Chi Kung or therapeutic gymnastics along with specialists in Shaolin styles participated.
In the event, the Danza del León, under the direction of Ernesto Amarán Achong, performed by members of the Mi Chih-Tang Chinese National Society, from Havana’s Chinatown, was seen.
Achong, also in charge of the Cuban school of Huang Yu Wen, a boxing style from south China said that 16 instructors have studied at the ToiSam Academy last year, receiving training from Shaolin monks, including Master Liang Fugian.
In addition to fighting with typically Chinese swords and spears, the public from Matanzas enjoyed the presentation of Rubén Avilés Nuñez, provincial president of Kendo in Matanzas and representative of the Japanese Martial Arts.
