The head of the National Group of Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture, Elizabeth Peña Turruellas, highlighted the need to recover urban farms in Matanzas in the absence of this type of structure in seven municipalities.
He pointed out the importance of these units as the heart of the agricultural movement during the group’s journey through the province.
“We must protect the representatives of the popular council, that’s why the urban farm must be sustainable and profitable to give a decent salary to the workers.”
Also, the progress of the Cuban western territory was highlighted, although dissatisfactions persist with the use of sheep-goat potential, with organic soils and fertilizers, agro-ecological management of pests and seeds.
During the conclusions of the visit, the municipalities of Matanzas, Colón, Limonar, Martí and Los Arabos stood out, while Jagüey Grande, despite being a productive pole, occupied the last position in the evaluation of the subprograms.
The Excellence was delivered to Antonio Hernández’s parcel in the Versalles Popular Council of the headland and the Triple Excellence to the Los Cocos Estate in the Ciénaga de Zapata.
