The 86 delegates and a guest who will participate for Matanzas in the final sessions of the XXI Congress of the Cuban Trade Workers Union (CTC) paid tribute to the heroes of April 19th, 1961, date of the historic Cuban victory over the US invasion by Playa Girón, located in the territory called Zapata Swamp, south of this western province.
Moments before traveling to Havana, place to the great event of the Antillean workers, a minute of silence was observed for the fallen during a contest led by Fidel Castro Ruz, historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, who in less than 72 hours was won, in what is known as the first great defeat of Yankee imperialism in Latin America.
Joel Báez Almeida, union leader of the tenants in currency, expressed the high meaning of a date that “commits to continue defending the peace and sovereignty of a country that will never be allowed to bend by the United States or by any extraterritorial law. We will defend our independence at the price that is necessary, “said the owner of Hostal Azul, downtown in Matanzas city.
The moment of remembrance to the 58th anniversary of the triumph in Girón took place in the Convention Center of the CTC, where until Friday the delegates remained, that in the afternoon of the same April 19 arrived in Cojímar, one of the four villas that will host the 1,200 men and women of the country who from April 20th to 24th will participate in the most important meeting of Cuban workers.
