Saying birds is saying life.

Elegant flight, plumage of varied and intense colors, songs and diverse peaks are some of the characteristics that lead us to admire the birds, vertebrates that are dedicated every nine of May.
The International Bird Day allows us to inspire and encourage projects that lead to the preservation of this species that lives in both rural and urban environments, near or far from man.
Therefore, to say birds is to say life, food chains, that is, aesthetics, ornamentation. Nelvis Gómez Campos, a CITMA specialist in Matanzas, commented.
“They are essential as biological controllers, since some birds have species of fauna incorporated into their diet that are toxic or that affect the quality of life of human beings in their homes or workplaces, hence the role of birds as environmental sanitizers.”
The dispersion of seeds is another practice of birds.
“The success of natural reforestation is due to them, especially because they move the seeds to places that are difficult for men to access.”
However, said Gómez Campos, the birds of the world are seriously threatened by anthropic phenomena such as the excessive use of chemical products and the dumping of waste into rivers and seas, that´s the reason for which in 2019 a campaign is developed to protect birds from the aggressions suffered by the presence of plastics in their habitats.
“The motto is protecting birds.
Do something practical against pollution by plastics has to do with worrisome data as 90 percent of the world’s seabirds have pieces of plastic in their intestines and another good part their beaks when entering it in the opening of plastic containers looking food? This leads to certain death because of the impossibility of feeding.
” Slaughter as a biological corridor for migratory birdsThe presence in Matanzas of the biological corridor that includes the existing area between the wetlands of the Ciénaga de Majaguillar, in the north, and that of the Ciénaga de Zapata, in the south of the province, allows this territory to be decisive at a national level to achieve the vitality of the bird conservation program. This leads to the great diversity of birds that inhabit the Cuban archipelago, more than 370 species.
“Here in Matanzas we can mention species such as zunzuncito, pink flamingo nesting areas in the Majaguillar area. We also have the gallinuela de Santo Tomás or ferminia, specimens in danger of extinction or with some degree of threat from the point of view of their sighting. ”
To them the presence in the peninsula of Hicacos of aquatic birds like the puffin is added.
“It is a kind of bird that is found in international protocols, that is, funds are disbursed for their protection.” And as for birds and their conservation, we cannot overlook the tocororo, Cuba’s national bird.
“Its good state of conservation allows us to observe it even in semi-urban areas and in the Ciénaga de Zapata much more easily.”And it is that every nine of May the lovers of the nature, of the flora and the world fauna, celebrate the International Day of the Birds with programs that take to their preservation.
