Coordinators of the international project Bases Ambientales para la Sostenibilidad Alimentaria (BASAL), conducted a tour to disseminate knowledge, good practices and lessons learned by municipalities of Matanzas where this initiative is applied.
Producers and technical staff of agricultural cooperatives, accompanied by representatives of the government, CITMA, Agriculture and the ANAP of Jovellanos, Jagüey Grande and Colón shared experiences already systematized by BASAL in support of the process of adaptation to climate change in the agricultural sector Cuban.
During the course, extensive discussions were generated on the legal and financial mechanisms that can be accessed by those who are inserted in the process of categorization of the farms under the condition of Sustainable Land Management (MST), as well as the potential of these producers. to access the funds of the National Soil Improvement Program and the Forest Fund.
Based on the results of this tour, training was planned on climate scenarios and agro-meteorological services by the provincial Meteorological Center. The promotion of these benefits will be done through the system of the Delegation of Agriculture and the ANAP.
To this we must add the next visit of leading producers in the agro-ecology movement from Matanzas to the Tierra Brava farm in Pinar del Río, categorized as a site started under MST and at the point of sale of products under these practices inaugurated in Los Palacios.
All this work aims to encourage a greater number of producers and state companies to adopt these good practices that reduce imports, increase yields and achieve adaptation to climate change with the achievement of food sovereignty, one of the strategic objectives of the Life Task.
