An entertaining and fruitful meeting with the Matanzas delegation to the Ninth Congress of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba held last night the first secretary of the Party in the province, Liván Izquierdo Alonso, accompanied by the members of the Provincial Bureau and the Administration Council.
The comrade Izquierdo Alonso offered an overview of the economic development programs of the province, which are integrated social and in which culture deserves a prominent place. The main objective of the meeting was based on the possibility that the artists had updated information about the occurrence of the territory.
Hours before the delegation, made up of nine intellectuals, made a tour by Matanzas centers of interest, among them the Antonio Guiteras Holmes Thermoelectric Power Plant, where he contacted the workers of the important group.
Under the slogan Without culture there is no possible freedom, the ninth Congress of the UNEAC, which begins today at the Havana Convention Center, will promote the exchange between artists and writers on fundamental issues such as the improvement of artistic education and achievement of greater participation of the organization in territorial initiatives.
The delegation from Matanzas is led, in the first place, by its current president, the writer José Manuel Espino, along with the members of the also renewed executive: the radio journalist Leo García Ramos, first vice president, and the vice presidents, the musician Alfonsito Lloréns and the writer Carlos Chacón.
