Renaissance of a beach loved by Matanzas.

Tamara Caridad Mesa González 29 julio, 2019

El Coral beach, one of those preferred by the Matanzas and also the most damaged by the hurricane winds of Irma, receives a strong attack during these summer days, this time from the workers of the Business Unit of Flora and Fauna Base of Matanzas to return its appeal.

“The first action was to restore the beach, put it in condition. For this, a sand spill was made and the collection of all that the sea dragged out to recover the space available to bathers in this area that has a lot of reef.

“Likewise, a few trucks were collected from the rubble and the stone that remained in the water and in what was the strip of sand, to facilitate the passage of people through these areas.”

To these actions, added Rosa María Santana, director of Flora and Fauna, join the restoration of the facilities, say the ranchón-coffee maker, the administrative office, the bathrooms, among others.

“The objective is to provide a complete service to the population, that is, we not only work on the conservation of the environment that is our social purpose, but also pay attention to tourism and gastronomy. In other words, our work here has two fundamental components, the social and the environmental ones”.

It is a work that also involves other entities belonging to the provincial Directorate of Agriculture.

“Flora and Fauna has been dedicated to the restoration of the beach and everything that has to do with the coastal ecosystem, but here we merged with EDESCON which is the company that carries out the most important construction work and with the workers of the Pig Company, the Poultry Unit, among others”.

About the tasks that are carried out to regenerate the coastal vegetation, Rosa María commented.

“When we started the restoration we had to eliminate many of the plants and creeping vegetation that was in a very bad state, today we are immersed in its restoration and the sowing of the Caleta grape, which is ideal for these ecosystems because it protects the sand, in case strong winds constitute a barrier to the advance of the sea and prevent the saline spray from reaching the road”

.Regarding access to the public in these times when everyone looks at the beaches, the answer was precise

“In the first moments we closed the area because the cleaning actions were very intense, but once the beach and the sand were cleaned, the bathers began to arrive, in addition to the umbrellas that we have installed – more than a score – all days groups of visitors arrive to enjoy this beach that was really always appreciated by the Matanzas”.

Thus, with intentionality and determination, work is being done today at El Coral beach.

“We still lack constructive deals, but we want to conclude the ranchón that we are finishing crossing out, start offering gastronomic and recreational services with music, sports games …”

Reasons why Liván Izquierdo Alonso, first secretary of the Party in the province, encouraged them to work with a view to delivering the work on August 13th, date of the 93rd anniversary of Fidel’s birth.
