Icarón Theater granted National Distinguished status.

Next to celebrate the Day of Cuban Culture, the National Union of Culture Workers granted the Icarón Theater collective the status of National Distinguished.

The official act took place on the morning of yesterday, September 9 at the headquarters of the theater ensemble, directed by members of the provincial Union of Culture and the Council of the Performing Arts.

Sense of belonging, active participation in the assemblies and tasks of the trade union movement, as well as the improvement and preparation of the management team, facilitated the election of the team of “Mirita teacher” as a faithful defender of national identity, and its results contribute to that culture be “shield and sword of the nation”.

Each year the Union awards this award to institutions and workers in the artistic sector that stand out in the union’s work.

Leticia Rodríguez, a member of the provincial Bureau of the Culture Union in Matanzas, said that Icarón received the award for constituting a project focused on promoting theatrical language, forming new generations of actors and stage directors, meeting the union quota in greeting to the July 26 and perform work inside and outside the context of its headquarters located on Rio Street, between Dos de Mayo and Manzaneda, in the city of Yumurina.

Irasema Elías Suárez, secretary in function of the provincial Union of Culture, said that during the past year Icarón Theater made two tours, presented 15 repertoires with two premieres and made 15 representations in urban and rural spaces of the province and the country, which reflects the will of this guild to raise the quality of its work.

Miriam Muñoz Benítez, Matanzas actress and director of the award-winning theatrical body, said at the close of this event that: “one of the main reasons that have allowed the strengthening of Icarón as a collective is the unity and strength concatenated mainly aimed at the completion of the local next to become the main venue of their performances. ”

The actress thanked the Performing Arts Council (CPAE), an institution that tirelessly collaborates with the construction work of the theater, the Culture Directorates in all its instances and the Triple C brigade, who together with the combined actors, directors and involved work also as builders of a space that in a few months will open its doors to the Matanzas public.
