Julio Font Tió was a distinguished Doctor of Medical Sciences, a full member of the Cuban Society of Surgery and a member of the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution. His more than 65 years of services made him deserving of countless praise, like that of some of his colleagues, who say that surgery in the province should be written with J.
He was one of the few doctors in Matanzas who did not emigrate after January 1959, despite having part of his family outside of Cuba and having proposals to practice in a recognized clinic in Miami.
Member of a family of doctors, his father was, one of his daughters, a cousin, a nephew …, the town identified him forever as Julito, no doctor, no doctor, only Julito and that he loved. He loved “his bloody place” and was rigid in the rules he imposed in the hall. Rules that avoided complications and that led their surgeries to the expected success. How much should still be learned from him!
He finished his active career as a surgeon at the Mario Muñoz Monroy Military Hospital in Matanzas, where he was welcomed with the love and respect he deserved.
His imprint will be perpetuated by the doctors he trained and by the many patients assisted, not only in Cuba, but also in various countries of the world.
The condolences of the Matanzas people reach their families and friends.
