In the sugar agribusiness of the province of Matanzas, measures were implemented to save energy carriers in the current context of the country.
In the case of the repairs of the power plants, double shifts were created to reduce electricity consumption during the “peak” hours, said Ricardo Sánchez Calero, director of the Matanzas Sugar Company.
“Today in Jesús Rabí, in the municipality of Calimete, a brigade works in the tandem during the night as an organizational measure,” the director added.
Likewise, the Base Business Unit of the Services Company of the Agroindustria Azucarera (ESAZÚCAR) readjusted the transportation of the goods, according to its director Jorge Cabrera San Martín.
“In our kitchens, in addition, food is made with coal supplied by the Matanzas Agroforestry Company and in that way we guarantee food to the more than six thousand daily guests in the sector.”
The measures respond to the need to save fuel and not to paralyze sugar extraction or repairs, a period that precedes the start of the 2019-2020 harvest in the province.
On this stage, Sánchez Calero pointed out that the province has a physical progress of 56 percent and the arrears are recovered to carry out the tests at the plants in November.
The director of the Matanzas Sugar Company also recalled that sugar production represents a source of foreign exchange to the country and is one of the sectors affected by the criminal US blockade of Cuba.
