A few days ago when I received the order of my Head of Department to perform The Thread of Life – the section that Radio 26 proposes every week to its listeners – dedicated to the journalist Sergio López Herrera, my imagination flew until the day we met him personally.
And I speak in the plural because on that occasion we were Gicel Guerra de la Riva, my friend of the years and a double colleague (teacher and journalist), and me.
We talked in the Information Department of Radio 26 with Ana Águila, then Chief Editor, about the possibility of channeling our steps towards journalism when that man of short stature but strong voice arrived and after the presentation Anita told us.
«Look, he is Sergio López, an excellent reporter who has a lot to teach in this profession.»
And everything was going well until Anita told him that we were graduates in Physics. He could not hide his confusion, «what do some physics professors doing a profession like journalism?».
He wondered then to himself, he told us a while later, and whenever he is told about the subject he takes up that passage … Fortunately he changed his mind.
And with that experience, I began to combine ideas to develop the work that summed up in six or eight minutes about four decades of the work of Sergio López Herrera, the reporter, university professor, Head of the Information and Writing Department, jury of Journalism competitions and director of information programs.
