The National Ballet of Cuba (BNC) does not cease in its efforts to be continuators of the immense work of the cousin Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso and prepares the first season organized by the dancer Viengsay Valdés, artistic deputy director of the company.

For the occasion they had at the headquarters of rehearsals in Havana with the presence of internationally renowned artists, according to Valdés in the Sauto de Matanzas Theater.

Such is the case of choreographer Alexei Ratmansky, who was director of the Bolshoi theater in Russia and currently works with the American Ballet Teathre.

For the Cuban company Ratmansky set up Concerto DSCH, a replacement of a ballet that he previously did for the New York City Ballet, based on the music of Dmitri Shostakovich, the first Cuban dancer said.

“Ballet is a diversion, it has come very well in style to our company, it is quite dynamic, cheerful, it just leaves the dancers respite and gives the opportunity to the Cuban school to speed up a little.

“This type of choreography allows us another way to attack the movements and the assembly was really fast, in just one week. Right now Ratmansky is preparing his own version of Gisselle for the Bolshoi theater. ”

The BNC maitre, Consuelo Domínguez, referred to Alicia Alonso’s legacy for the new generations of dancers.

“Precisely for this piece of the Russian choreographer, the dance body is very young, it is a breath of freshness, it is difficult even for soloists, but I think it will do the same for the public, than for dancers an opportunity to show themselves.

“I applaud the happy idea of the direction of permeating the company of new works and maintaining our classics, of Alicia’s versions, because that is also the hallmark that identifies us as a country.”

Viengsay Valdés said that the program scheduled for November 1 at the Great Theater of Havana Alicia Alonso also includes the replacement of Poema del fuego, by Alberto Méndez and the premiere of the complete ballet Love, Fear, Lost, by Brazilian choreographer Ricardo Amarante About this work detailed.

“This is a piano on stage with music by Édith Piaf, they are three pas de deux and each one has a different emotion and meaning and will also be performed by young BNC figures.”

For the month of December the prestigious company will raise a classic of its repertoire, Nutcracker, to the capital tables and will continue to enrich the tribute for the centenary of Alicia Alonso, in 2020. By then the Sauto de Matanzas Theater, in its condition as a sub-venue of the Festival International Ballet, will add to the tribute.
