With an extensive cultural, sports and recreational program, residents of the southern municipality of Ciénaga de Zapata will remember the historic date on which Fidel decided to share Christmas Eve dinner, on December 24th, 1959, along with several families who lived nearby from the town of Soplillar.
As is known, the leader of the Cuban Revolution decided to participate in that Christmas evening in such an intricate place of Cuban geography, willing not to hide his admiration for the coal and humble peasants of this territory.
According to the program, on Monday 23rd will begin the day of celebrations with the V Scientific Workshop Cosculluela In Memoriam, to then give way to the inauguration of the photographic exhibition Fidel and the Ciénaga de Zapata and conclude at night with the artistic gala Artes of my community.
On Tuesday 24th, at 8.30 am, the 60 auroras cultural political event will take place with Fidel and the Revolution, in areas of the 50th Anniversary Memorial-Library of the coal dinner with Fidel, while at night they will hold the collective dinner to remember that of six decades ago.
As on other occasions, there will be gastronomic-commercial fair, ball meetings, rodeos, exhibitions of traditional, danceable dishes, among other recreational options.
The celebration is extended to the rest of the settlements of the Ciénaga de Zapata, the most backward of the territories of the country to the triumph of the Revolution, where people lived in very poor conditions, without electricity, without doctors or teachers and overcrowded in rustic huts.
