Due to difficulties presented with the supply of some chemical products, the Agro-industrial Grain Company of the Matanzas province was forced to readjust its rice production plan for 2019.

According to the director of the entity, Jorge Luis Hernández Álvarez, for that reason they stopped planting 2,500 hectares, which is why the physical plan was reorganized to ten thousand 154 tons of cereal.

Through some strategies with the advanced producers and giving better attention to the crops, the company managed to close the year with more than 14 thousand tons of rice for consumption, a figure requested by the higher instance, after the readjustment.

Investments

Construction work intensified in the two new dryers that are built in the province, with technology of Chinese origin; one in the rural area of Santa Gertrudis, in the municipality of Colón, more than 50 percent of its assembly, and that of Merceditas, north of Cárdenas, began.

The director explained that the purpose is to eliminate drying on roads, by modernizing and increasing the beneficiary plants of the grain. “At the moment the province has three dryers, which are insufficient to process the rice that is harvested in the region. Once these plants have been completed, plus another one in Calimete for seeds, the current industrial drying capacity will be increased from 124 t to more than 310 in the year”.

Diversification of the productions

The diversification of the productions is a strategy of the rice entity in the province of Matanzas, as an alternative of economic and agricultural development.

Since the last semester of the year 2019 the entity ventures into the production of coal, line in which it is proposed to export 60 t this year. It also develops pig farming and is engaged in the fattening of bulls and sheep.  Jorge Luis argued that during this month a plant will start operating that will process 10 t per day of animal feed in the Amarillas dryer, which will use the derivatives of the industrial process and protein plants harvested in the company itself.
