The Governor of Matanzas, Mario Sabines Lorenzo, received His Excellency Mr. Faisal Muslat G. Almandeel, extraordinary ambassador and plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Cuba, who visits the province, with the aim of evaluating the progress of investments and budgets granted by the Saudi Fund for Development in the works of the aqueduct, sewerage and river drainage of the municipality of Cárdenas.
Upon arrival, the delegation, also made up of the counselor and second head of the embassy, Sultan Alí Q. Almezaini and Fermín E. Sarduy, director of International Relations and Investments of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources, along with other officials, they appeared at the Office of the Curator of the City of Matanzas, where they also spoke with the director of the Department of Commerce, Investments and Cooperation, Ramiro Ruiz; the director of International Relations, Juana Ortiz, both from the Government, plus colleague Antonio Hernández Martínez, provincial delegate for Hydraulic Resources.
Governor Sabines thanked the brother country for its support for Cuba in international forums and the existing cooperation in favor of the people of Carden. He also offered an overview of the economic and social development of the province and detailed the potential of the territory in the field of tourism and other exportable items of interest to the visitor.
For his part, Ambassador Almandeel stressed the excellent relations between the two countries and the confidence in the projects carried out in Cárdenas. “The Saudi Development Fund has contributed to the Cuban economy and this reflects the will of the Kingdom to strengthen and expand bilateral ties with Cuba. I am happy – he said – to visit this province and see personally what is achieved with this cooperation.
We know that the projects in this area of aqueduct and sewerage favor a large number of people and improve their quality of life. There are also advances in the economic-social spheres with these efforts, an indication of the depth of the ties between the two nations. «
Subsequently, the delegation toured the founding square of the Athens of Cuba and in the afternoon went to the Pearl of the North, where it evidenced the execution of the budget provided by the Saudi Development Fund in the works of the Carden aqueduct, whose general amount amounts to more of 30 million dollars. The Governor, in a gesture of friendship, offered the Saudi Arabian ambassador to Cuba a beautiful gift of crafts, made with shells from the depths of Varadero.
