International Day of Action against AIDS commemorated in Matanzas.

Despite some stability in the curve for diagnosing infections with HIV-AIDS, each year in Matanzas more than 100 people are infected with the aforementioned virus, the section chief for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) and hepatitis from the provincial center for promotion and prevention, Betsy Benítez Fuentes.

Most of the new cases are men who have sex with other men, yet the number of women involved is increasing and unfortunately some of these are detected in their pregnancy stage. With the limitations of the moment, but without forgetting the International Day of Action against AIDS, this first of December in Matanzas territory various activities take place.

In the morning, the alley of the traditions of the Athens of Cuba will have a conference on responsible sexuality and at night the Bonifacio Byrne house of culture will open its doors to promoters and presenters of community projects to bring messages to neighbors with preventive approaches.

The fight against Human Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS, for its acronym in English); This year it has the motto of World Solidarity, Shared Responsibility, very in tune with the crisis imposed by the covid-19.

The first time this event was celebrated was in 1988 and since then, the virus has killed more than 25 million people worldwide, representing one of the most destructive epidemics to hit humanity.
