They say that Matanzas is a land where literature overflows in the hearts of its inhabitants. And that gift is not only from the romantic city of rivers and bridges, but also extends to the towns that enrich this province with its literary wealth, rich in exponents of poetic art, narrative forms and dramaturgy.

The most representative inspiration is the Writers Association of the Matanzas branch of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), whose president, the poet and narrator Daneris Fernández Fonseca, responded in an interview to this station:

“The work must be measured based on the resolutions of the last Congress and the entry of the new presidency of UNEAC. That moment marked the work that has gone into the association and in search of a transversality in relations with other sections, it is about not only staying in an activity of the writers, but also involving in a more effective way to the various manifestations of art.

“An important element is the rescue of the Social House as a headquarters that not only groups together, but also commits the intellectuals and in the same way, when actions are carried out outside this venue, that they also feel and be carriers of the work of the organization , in its functionality as an institution. »

When inquiring about the particularities of the Matanzas association, Daneris pointed out: “We are not one of the largest, it reaches about thirty members, but yes, it is a fairly united union. It cannot be denied that we assume the advantage that the current president is at the head of UNEAC, who has experience in these interests.

Among the oldest members is Rubén Vázquez, founder, and others whom we have tried to help to raise their quality of life, such as Isolina Bellas. The meeting of the Party and the Government with our Presidency has contributed to giving a differentiated treatment to those who need it due to their state of health.

» The projections for this year will be … “The strategy, limited by the Pandemic, of bringing the writers closer to the social home and taking them to places of closeness with the public is maintained. The line of leading spaces was drawn from the headquarters and thus we incorporated Poetry Wednesdays and Mixed Coffee, reading times were created, such as the Unpublished Texts … and although we have been restricted by the Covid, we will continue with the José Jacinto National Contest Milanés, the Juan Francisco Manzano creation scholarships and the Orlando García Lorenzo Critics’ scholarship. «

Author of several books of stories that place him among the most distinctive creators of his generation, Daneris Fernández Fonseca specializes in investigative work, museology, conservation and heritage restoration in the Athens of Cuba.
