Health and joy with tai chi from the Alba Group.

Passing through La Estrella park, near the San Luis bridge, I found the Alba sociocultural project, which rescues traditions linked to Asian countries, with which they develop spiritual qualities, as well as increase the quality of life through the practice of tai chi.

Tai chi is based on a philosophical and corporal concept of how to assume existence, so this group of Matanzas residents, united around professor José Agustín Estrada Rolo, delve into the customs of those millenary cultures.

One of its activists, Berta Lidia Suárez Alfonso, granted this interview to this media:

«This group has greatly improved our quality of life, because we do exercises to alleviate different ailments such as hypertension, Alzheimer’s prevention, bone or muscle pain, among others, in addition to providing us with a feeling of peace and spiritual tranquility.

«We are currently practicing various exercises to participate in the mass event for the Anniversary of INDER to be held on the 16th at the René Fraga Moreno Park.»

Tai chi is considered one of the most popular physical activities in the world. It originated in China in the 17th century and its power focuses on silent strength, flexibility and full consciousness rather than combat, which makes it accessible to many ages, including the elderly or those who have suffered some kind of injury, as it improves balance and mobility.

These projects are sponsored by the Office of the City Conservator together with INDER in the locality.

The enthusiastic members of the Alba group invite all those who wish to improve their lifestyle to participate on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays at 9:00 a.m. in this moment of relaxation and wellness, which they achieve in La Estrella Park, near the murmuring waters of the San Juan River.
