The program of actions includes recognitions to outstanding historians with five, ten, 15 and 20 years of work in the field, the delivery of the Provincial Award of History 2023, the act and commemorative gala, on the 22nd of this month, in the White Hall.

They will also hold a meeting with the founders of the organization on July 5th, at the City Conservator’s Office, among other proposals.

The grassroots sections of the thirteen municipalities will take part in the day with their own initiatives in each place, including book presentations, visits to relatives of deceased historians, solemn assemblies on the founding dates of territories such as Jagüey Grande, whose birthday is on the stage.

Day of the Cuban Historian.

Every July 1st we celebrate in our country the Day of the Cuban Historian to pay tribute to the cultures of humanistic science.

The Union of Historians of Cuba, main promoter of the day, chose this date in honor of Dr. Emilo Roig de Leuchsenring, who in July 1935 was appointed Historian of Havana, an activity he carried out until 1964, and who was the promoter of the National History Congresses.

Roig de Leuchsenring worked intensely in the preservation of the most authentic values of the material and spiritual patrimony of our homeland, since all his work is impregnated with the ideology of Martí, Gómez and Maceo.

From these lines, the recognition to the historians of the Matanzas municipalities, who strive in the daily fulfillment of their mission.

Names like the National Prize, Urbano Martínez Carmenate, Ileana Reyes, Carlos Quintana, Julio Amorín, Maité Betancourt, Humberto Rodríguez, Flora Arencibia and especially Juana Ortiz Ricardo, Mariana who helms the organization in the province, are to be congratulated.

Likewise, Ercilio Vento Canosa, tireless scholar; Leonel Pérez Orozco, City Curator; and eternal recognition for the recently deceased Arnaldo Jiménez de la Cal and Reynaldo González Villalonga.
