Although the consolidation of the reborn Communist Party of Cuba and its main spokesman, the Granma newspaper, endowed October 3rd, 1965 with an immense historical connotation, the absence of a figure who gave so much to the homeland left a bittersweet sensation in that solemn act in Havana’s Chaplin Theater, today Karl Marx.

The foundations of the first Central Committee were erected and, in the midst of that decisive revolutionary moment, the then Prime Minister of Cuba, Fidel Castro Ruz, with his voice cracking, but deep and energetic, spoke on behalf of the absent man and read his emotional farewell letter.

Fifty-eight years later, Ernesto Guevara’s words in that missive that evidences his affection, admiration and gratitude towards the largest of the Antilles still shake.
