Emisora provincial de Radio de Matanzas, Cuba: «La Radio de tu Corazón»

Miriam Muñoz meets Anneris Cánovas in a unique and special performance.

The festivity for the 77th anniversary of Miriam Muñoz Benítez was extended in time. The first actress, in the figure of her last character: the distinguished matancera Emilia Teurbe Tolón, appeared in front of the house where the embroiderer of the Cuban Flag was born, to honor her cradle and go to a nearby home where she would offer a unique and special performance.

The chosen place was the home of the famous singer Anneris Canovas, member of the Anacaona orchestra and permanent artist in Yumurian art centers for decades, who had not had the opportunity to witness the play written by Ulises Rodriguez Febles.

Receiving a performance, from beginning to end, full of emotion and feelings of love for Cuba, despite the risky life of the protagonist, the first Cuban exiled by the Spanish colonialists in the 19th century, shook the spirits of those attending the special event.

The ovation filled the improvised small hall and at the end there were recognitions for both emblematic women by Galería Corazones, with ceramics illustrated with the national flag and the column of the bridge, symbol of the Athens of Cuba.

Admirers of these Matanzas divas and members of Teatro Icarón, a group directed by the award-winning actress, were present.

Excited, the bard José Canito Castro gave to Mirita for her birthday and to his nonagenarian aunt, before her recovery, the poem titled: Much of Miriam, too much of Anneris.

The embrace of these two paradigms of Matanzas and Cuban culture was touching.

Written by María Elena Bayón Mayor.
